\u2018 The Bet \u2018 is a nice story written by famous Russian write Anton Chenhove. In this story, a rich banker gives a party, where a discussion arose among the guests and the host regarding capital punishment and life imprisonment. Most of the guests were in favour of life imprisonment. They considered it more humane than execution. But the host disagreed to them.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The discussion turned into a bet. A young lawyers became ready to stay lonely in a cell as a prison for fifteen years. And if he succeeded to do so , the rich banker would have to pay him two million roubles.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The lawyer became successful to live lonely a cell for fifteen years. Meanwhile, the rich banker had turned into an ordinary banker. Fallen in debts. He feared to pay back. The money of the bet because then be would go ruined. So, he decided to kill the lawyer.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Fifteen years of prison and so much readings and loneliness had made the lawyer a very wise person. Now he hated money and worldly pleasures. He wrote in a note that he would run away from to the prison just five minutes earlier and would himself violate the agreement and lose the money of the bet.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

When, the banker came to kill lawyer, he saw the sleeping lawyer and read the note written by him and wept at the poor fellow and silently went out of the room.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The next day, news spread out that the prisoner had run away. The banker went to the cell to confirm his fleeing and silently took the note written by the lawyer and placed it in his safe to be locked.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
